Why 'Hannah Plantain'?

Some of you might be wondering where I got the title for this blog. Let me tell you.

We have been here almost a week and we have had lot of different kinds of plantains: fried plantains (sweet, hot and very different), plantain chips (salty, crunchy and tasty) and just plain, old sweet delicious plantains. Best of all, all these plantains are sold on platters on top of peoples heads! BTW some people carry big 3ft tall jewelry boxes on top of their head... it's so crazy- me and my mom hope to learn how to do it too.

Back to the blog title. Anyone know a different name for plantains?...hint: some of you might have had this cut up on your cereal this morning.

My blog title is just one of my nicknames with a little African flair!

  2. Hi Hanna Plantain! I hope your next post is a picture attached with a basket of Plantains on your head. You've got skills so I'm sure in no time you will master it. Love you Hannah! Miss your smiley face. Glad you're keeping us posted on your adventures. Give your family a hug for me. Love you. Ixchelle

  3. What an attractive blog, Hannah! I like the design. It's simple but pretty. You could be a food writer! You did a great job describing the flavors of plantains in different varieties.

Are the people carrying the tall jewelry boxes doing that to sell them, or are they just worried about leaving them at home so no one steals their precious jewels?

I can't believe you have been gone over a week already! I'm so glad we can hear all about your adventures through your blogs. You probably know, but school is starting tomorrow. It won't be the same without you and Rockwell, but we would have to miss you anyway because you would be off at Emerson or somewhere.

If you don't know who I am, ask Rockwell. I think I gave him enough hints.

  4. Hi Hannah! Nice post. Do you like plantains? I guess you must if you put it in your blog title. Have you had anything else interesting to eat?

  5. I love your African nickname, Hannah! Ghanaians also have 'day' names, which are based on the day of the week they were born. Since I was born on a Saturday, I am Ama. Ask your mom what day of the week you were born, and then ask a Ghanaian your day name.

You are a great writer, and I look forward to reading more about your adventures in Ghana! Say hi to your family for me.

  7. I love your nickname Hannah. The best plantains I've ever had were at a Thai food restaurant, and they were fried and served with homemade coconut ice cream with coconut flakes on top ~ yummy! Can't wait to hear more about your adventure! Love, Katie

  14. Hi Hannah. Sorry that I have taken so long to comment on your blog. I guess I am like the "Up" grandpa, I am very slow. Actually, I'm trying to figure this out.........the first time I commented, it disappeared when I tried to publish it. You're positive outlook on everything over there is so refreshing. I love all of your stories & it's really cool that you have a blog to record your experiences. The story about your freckles was great and also quite useful because now I can see where you are in all of the pictures that you posted;-)

Grandma just commented from the other room, "they really like to eat children over there." I said, "say what" & she started to wildly flail her right arm and said, "BEAT" and then spelled it for me. I'm in really bad shape. I hear the wrong words & see the wrong colors,
